Company History - Loveday And Loveday Removals

Company History

Loveday & Loveday can trace their origins back to 1926 when the removal business was part of a furniture store selling furniture in the Cirencester town centre. At one stage, it was operating warehousing from the barracks at Cecily Hill, where staff were regularly called upon to lug tea chests up and down stairs and hallways to be stored. Initially, the business started out with horse drawn vehicles and its first powered vehicle was acquired in 1936 from a company in Dartmouth.

In the 1960's the business relocated to Love Lane and was one of the first companies in the country to provide containerised storage to its clients. Jim Loveday was proprietor of Loveday & Loveday from 1945, when he took over the business from his late father, until his retirement in 1988 when the business was sold. Since that time, it has been through a number of ownerships before becoming part of the GB Liners' Group in 2003.
